Why Whey?

Whey protein is a combination of proteins that come from, you guessed it, whey. Whey is the liquid part of milk that gets separated from cheese during production. For example, think of the liquid in a yogurt container –that’s whey. It is a great source of high-quality protein, it contains all of the essential amino acids, is very digestible and absorbs quickly in the gut. Grass-fed whey protein is one of the best kinds of proteins you can use, exactly why our Busy Bars are made from grass-fed whey protein.

Incorporating whey protein into your diet has proven to help weight loss. It reduces hunger because protein is the most filling macronutrient. Supplementing with whey protein causes us to eat fewer calories and boosts metabolism. It promotes muscle growth which is important because muscle mass declines with age; this leads to fat gain and risk of disease. One is able to maintain muscle mass, improve strength, and encourage fat loss when incorporating whey protein into the diet. This happens because the anabolic hormones are released, stimulating muscle growth.  Amino acids are building blocks to protein which compose the human body. Whey protein is full of the essential amino acids (amino acids that come from food) full of cysteine and leucine –important BCAAs for muscle protein synthesis.

CRP (c-reactive protein) is a marker of inflammation. Whey protein reduces CRP which means inflammation is also reduced. Whey protein also enhances antioxidant effects. Whey is a high-cysteine food (an amino acid and produced from gluthione) – an important antioxidant. Whey reduces oxidative stress, increases levels of glutathione, and even benfits those struggling with IBS. It has positive effects on cholesterol; lowers LDL levels. A high quality whey protein helps lower blood pressure in those who already have high blood pressure. Type II diabetes is often characterized by high blood sugar and an impaired insulin use. Whey has the ability to moderate blood sugar, increase insulin levels and it’s sensitivity. It is especially effective when consumed before high carb meals.
